Inside Silo 6, Silo Park
An exhibition by Chirag Jindal exploring the subterranean landscape of Auckland's central suburbs.
Terrestrial LiDAR instruments are used to reveal the dilapidated condition of one the city's most neglected landscapes - underground lava caves - and examines its extraordinary relationship with the built environment. Without any legal framework during the 20th century, many of the discovered sites are now lost, destroyed, or have become a hidden layer beneath the built environment, accessed through manholes, private backyards and street front garages.
Large dioramas and moving images offer novel ways of examining the city's urban fabric and it's uncanny relationship with this natural landscape.
Into the Underworld exhibition is part of the Festival of Architecture.
